Something that Happened

Dear Reader/Listener:

Lest I be judged for it, I inform you now that this web space is a scratch pad, a space for experimentation. Have fun, enjoy, and read much of it, but try not to read too much into it!

Just remember, not everything you read or hear is true. Everything else is - or can be, depending on your perspective.

Friday plans were unveiled for the world's tallest building, a skyscraper that will be constructed at New York City's World Trade Center site. Dubbed the Freedom Tower, the building's design borrows from architect Daniel Libeskind's design of last year, including its height of 1,776 feet tall (mark the significance of that number).

The model looks impressive, and I believe the building will be the ideal addition to New York's skyline. There have been some other impressive designs, including an interesting Jules Verne-ish throwback, but the chosen design has that Fortress of Solitude (Superman's crystal city) look that marks the center of the city while not imposing upon it. Plus it's really, really tall. Some even say too tall.

I'm awed by skyscrapers, even though the tallest towers I've been exposed to are the relatively minor-in-comparison-to-New York buildings of Los Angeles. I believe in their sublimity; their overpowering grandeur stirs a quiet spot of my being into action. (I usually get a hard-on when I see an image of a skyscraper.) Perhaps because of the architectual developments, this past year or two I've been drawn more and more to New York. I've never had any attraction to the city and have never had more than a passing desire to visit, but lately--and especially in light of the upcoming additions to the city--I've been feeling the pull. I'll hold out, though, until the Freedom Tower rockets into the skyline.

Okay, it's been long enough. I'm such a perfectionist, I always have to wait until I have something brilliant to say or do before I make an entry here. But if I wait around for something brilliant to come, I may be waiting a very long time. So here I am, posting an entry.

Speaking of brilliance, are you aware of my Internet radio station, VoyagerRadio? That is what consumes most of my time, besides selling on Amazon. This past month and a half have been a struggle financially (okay, the whole year has), and so I've been selling CDs to make ends meet. It's helped out alot--I've even begun to entertain fantasies of making a business out of it. [Link courtesy of Your Mac Life.] I guess I'll do anything to keep my Internet radio station "on the air"!

I just realized I was trying hard to find appropriate links for this blog entry. That's common practice in the blog world, but Something That Happened isn't your typical blog. This is a space for experimentation (as noted in my little introduction on the left side of this page--at least, today that's where it's located). This is not a restrictive, 3-journal-entries-a-day-this-is-my-life-in-a-nutshell blog. This is me, and then it's not me, it's my other self. (No, I'm not schizophrenic--I'm referring to my subconscious self.) This is that creative impulse, that spirit of producing that overcomes me and simply must be wrought via electronic bits. This is...

Oh boy, I'm ranting. Perhaps I have nothing more to say today? We'll see.
